We are proud to be able to develop and support our instructors by providing them with opportunities to consolidate and gain experience for their next qualification, so you may meet several of them observing, assisting, delivering under supervision or supervising others delivering whilst on a Climb Cornwall course.

Rock Climbing

Whether you're an experienced trad climbing looking to move onto the fantastic sea cliffs the South West has to offer or learn about improvised rescues, or someone looking to take your first steps on outdoor rock we have a course or workshop for you.

We generally operate on the amazing crags and sea cliffs of Cornwall and Devon, however many of our outdoor rock climbing courses also run in Gloucestershire, Somerset, Dorset and the Gower.

By arrangement, we can also deliver in North Wales, Pembrokeshire and the Peak District. 

Courses

Intro to Trad Climbing - 1 day

From £120 per person 1 climber: £230 2-4 climbers: £130 pp 5+ climbers: £120pp

This course is for those who have done some indoor climbing and are looking to move onto real rock.

Syllabus; crag safety, understanding outdoor grades, making good route choices, using trad gear, belaying, anchors and seconding traditional routes.​

Trad Leading - 2 days

From £230 per person 1 climber: £460 2-4 climbers: £250 pp 5+ climbers: £230 pp

Aimed at those who lead indoors and want to get on the sharp end outdoors.

Syllabus; crag and route selection, placing trad gear, building anchors as a leader, belaying your second, trusting your gear, route finding, movement skills, placing gear as a leader, abseiling and retreat, and some basic emergency skills.

Sport Climbing - 2 days

From £230 per person 1 climber: £460 2-4 climbers: £250 pp 5+ climbers: £230 pp

For indoor leaders looking to move onto rock without the complexities of trad climbing.

Syllabus; crag safety, crag and route selection, placing draws, cleaning a sport climb, projecting and retreat, movement skills, additional skills for the belayer, and some basic emergency skills.

Workshops

Multipitch Skills - 1 day

From £130 per person 1 climber: £230 2-4 climbers: £130 pp

Aimed at competent trad or sport climbers who are ready to take on some bigger routes.

Syllabus; crag and route selection, anchor building, stance management, route finding, block-leading and swinging leads, abseiling and retreat, problem-solving and emergency skills. 

Sea Cliff Skills - 1 day

From £130 per person 1 person: £230 2-4 climbers: £130 pp

This course is aimed at competent trad or sport climbers keen to explore the uniquely challenging environment of climbing on the coast.

Syllabus; risk assessment and safety, tides and swell, crag and route selection, abseiling in, escape and ascending an ab rope, problem-solving and emergency skills.

Improvised Rescue - 1 day

From £120 per person 1 person: £230 2-4 climbers: £130 pp 5+ climbers: £120pp

For competent outdoor climbers looking to develop their skillset for use in an emergency.

Syllabus; risk assessment and personal safety, escaping the system, accessing a casualty, hoisting, lowering, descending with a casualty, damaged equipment and calling for help.

Indoor Climbing

For beginners and improvers, our indoor climbing courses and workshops are created to support you through every step of your indoor climbing journey.

​

Our indoor climbing courses generally take place throughout the South West at climbing walls near Wadebridge, Tavistock, South Molton, Plymouth, Totnes and Exeter. We also occasionally visit walls in Bristol, Swindon, Gloucester and Southampton. By arrangement we can deliver at other walls around the UK. 

Courses

Top-roping & Belaying - 8hrs

From £130 per person 1 climber: £300 2 climbers: £175 pp 3-6 climbers: £150 pp 7+ climbers: £130 pp

Ideal for new climbers or boulderers wanting to use the ropes, this course aims to develop skills, understanding and confidence needed to climb unsupervised at indoor climbing walls. 

​

Syllabus; route selection and grades, harnesses and other equipment, tying in, pre-climb checks, belaying and lowering, catching a fall, managing weight imbalance between climber and belayer, climber/belayer communication and developing confidence on a rope.​

​

This course can be delivered over 3 or 4 sessions.

Learn to Lead - 8hrs

From £130 per person 1 climber: £300 2 climbers: £175 pp 3-6 climbers: £150 pp 7+ climbers: £130 pp

Aimed at climbers who are already using the top ropes independently and are keen to access the lead climbs at their local wall.

 

Syllabus; ropes, quick draws and other kit, clipping, lead belaying, managing weight imbalance between climber and belayer, taking and catching lead falls, route reading, movement skills, and developing confidence on the sharp end.

​

This course can be delivered over 3 or 4 sessions.

Climber Development Course - 3 sessions

From £130 per person 1 climber: £300 2 climbers: £175 pp 3-6 climbers: £150 pp 7+ climbers: £130 pp

A bespoke course for you/your group, tailored to focus on the skills that you want to develop.

Workshops

Better Belaying - 4hrs

From £45 per person 1 climber: £140 2 climbers: £80 pp 3-6 climbers: £60 pp 7+ climbers: £45 pp

Following the BMC’s “Belaying Matters” conference in 2020 and the continued incidents of belayer error in climbing accidents worldwide, this workshop aims to support climbers in reviewing their practice and familiarising themselves with new developments in devices and techniques. 

 

Aimed at anyone who independently belays unsupervised and is interested in updating their knowledge and honing their skills.

Lead Falling & Catching - 4hrs

Addressing one of the most common things we hear from climbers - “I’m nervous about taking/holding lead falls” - this workshop explores the feelings about falling through a client-led, progressive approach and builds strategies for developing and maintaining confidence in taking falls. It also covers the technical skills of giving a good, soft and most of all safe catch, and methods for managing climber/belayer weight imbalances if needed.

Climb Clinic - 4hrs

Aimed at competent indoor climbers who want professional input on their technique and tactics to help them get more from their sessions and work on improving their grade.

Workshop content varies depending on the group’s aims, but often include some of: 

Warming up, structuring sessions for best performance, route reading, movement skills and techniques, drills and exercises for physical training, use of training boards, planning climbing to train for a trip or to get the most from the indoor wall to support other climbing goals.

Hillwalking & Mountaineering

Looking at taking on the moors and mountains of the UK? Join us to develop your skills in navigation in a variety of conditions, movement on rock, route selection, risk assessment, and more.

We generally operate on the rolling moors of Bodmin, Dartmoor and Exmoor, however our courses also run in the mountains of the Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia. 

 

By arrangement, we can also deliver in the Lake District and Scotland, as well as in the lowland terrain of the South and South East.

Learn to Navigate - 2 days

From £115 per person 1-3 walkers: £460 4-6 walkers: £125pp 7+ walkers: £115pp

Aimed at anyone heading out who wants to get off the path and explore some of our beautiful hills, moorland or mountains.

Syllabus; interpreting the map, using a compass, planning a route, strategies and techniques for finding places (or finding where you are!), pacing, bearings, route cards and more - all combined with lots of opportunities to practice with the support of your instructor.

Night Navigation - 1 "day"

From £60 per person 1-3 walkers: £240 4-6 walkers: £65pp 7+ walkers: £60pp

Anyone who is out and about off the path should know what to do if the mist rolls in or darkness falls - this one is for everyone who already knows how to use a map and compass to navigate. 

​

Syllabus; impacts of poor visibility, bearings and pacing in the dark, route planning, use of features along the way, back-tracking and relocation, emergency procedures.

Scrambling & Mountaineering - 2 days

From £230 per person 1 person: £460 2-4 people: £250 pp 5+ people: £230 pp

Aimed at competent hillwalkers who want to learn the rope and rock skills required to tackle steeper and more exposed routes in the mountains.

Syllabus; scrambling grades, guidebooks and terminology, consequential terrain, ropes, harnesses and other gear, route selection and route finding, anchors and belays, placing gear, rope management, descent and retreat, emergency procedures.

British Mountaineering Council Courses

The British Mountaineering Council is the National Governing Body for competitive climbing and the representative body for climbers and walkers in the UK. 

​

Ready to Rock

Aimed at adults who already climb independently indoors, this course will introduce you to real rock and the skills you need to get climbing outside. 

The crag environment, route selection, outdoor grades, traditional climbing gear, anchor building and abseiling.

BMC Skills Courses

We are pleased to be one of the two providers in the South West (along with Ibexoutdoors.com) of these courses - providing professional instruction for members of BMC affiliated clubs.

Climbing for All - 1 day

Developed by Adventure for All with support from the BMC and the Association of Mountaineering Instructors, this workshop combines disability awareness training with practical techniques to support people with disabilities or impairments taking part in climbing activities.

​

It is aimed at anyone who may be interested in learning more about accessible and inclusive climbing, and has been popular with climbers, parents & carers, support workers, teachers, climbing wall managers and climbing instructors.

​

The course does include elements of climbing, however you do not need to climb to take part.
